What are hakka noodles?
Hakka noodles are a popular Indo-Chinese dish made with stir-fried noodles, vegetables, and sometimes meat or seafood. Originating from the Hakka Chinese community, this dish has been adapted to Indian flavors over time. A Quick and Delicious Hakka Noodles Recipe You’ll Love
Hakka noodles are a crowd-pleaser, a delightful mix of savory, spicy, and tangy flavors. This recipe is perfect for busy weeknights, impromptu gatherings, or just when you’re craving something comforting. Let’s dive into making this simple yet irresistible dish step-by-step.
Prep Work: Getting the Veggies and Noodles Ready
First, we need to prep our veggies. Thinly slice 2 cups of cabbage, 2 medium red onions, and 1 bell pepper—any color you like works just fine. This colorful trio brings crunch, flavor, and a visual pop to your noodles.

Next, it’s time to cook the noodles. Bring a big pot of water to a rolling boil, toss in your chowmein noodles, and cook them according to the package instructions (usually 3-4 minutes). Drain the noodles, drizzle them with a little oil, and give them a toss to prevent sticking. With this step, the base of your dish is ready to roll!

Sizzling Aromatics: The Flavor Foundation
Now, grab a large pan or wok and heat 3 tablespoons of oil. Add 4-5 finely chopped garlic cloves, letting them sizzle and release their magical aroma. This step only takes about 30 seconds, but it’s the secret to building a fragrant foundation for your Hakka noodles.

Toss in the Veggies: A Quick Stir-Fry
With the garlic fragrant and golden, it’s time to add your prepped veggies. Toss them in and stir-fry on high heat for 1-2 minutes. The high heat locks in their crunch while enhancing their natural flavors. Trust me, this step is where the magic starts to happen!

The Sauce: Where the Magic Happens
Now comes the fun part—building the sauce. Add 2 tablespoons of chili garlic sauce, 1 tablespoon of ketchup, 2 tablespoons of vinegar, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, and 1 teaspoon of MSG (totally optional but worth it for that umami kick). Stir everything together, and your kitchen will smell divine.

Bring It All Together: Mixing the Noodles
Time to reintroduce the noodles to the pan. Toss them in and mix everything well so the noodles soak up the sauce and the veggies are evenly distributed. A couple of minutes of tossing, and your dish is ready to serve.

Let’s Eat!
Serve your Hakka noodles hot, garnished with a sprinkle of spring onions if you have them handy. Whether you enjoy them on their own or pair them with a side of chili chicken or Manchurian, these noodles will surely steal the show.
This recipe is quick, easy, and absolutely delicious—perfect for when you want restaurant-style food without leaving your kitchen. Give it a try, and let the slurping begin!
